HRH Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg awarded Bronze Wolf
Congratulations to HRH Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg, WSF Board Member and Immediate Past Chair, who on Saturday received the Bronze Wolf Award for his exceptional commitment to the Scout movement in Luxembourg and globally.
365 Scout leaders and honorary guests; Scouts of Luxembourg, delegations from the World Scouting, Board Members of the World Scout Foundation and Luxembourgish BP fellows gathered in Neihaischen to warmly congratulate the Prince on his achievement.
The Bronze Wolf, created in 1935, is the highest international Scout distinction and has only been presented to 400 recipients so far. HRH, The Chief Scout of Luxembourg, joins the list of “Extraordinary Scouts”, and continues following in his grandfather's footsteps.
The celebration began with a warm welcome of the Hereditary Grand Duke and Duchess by the crowd, who waved their Scout scarves. This was followed by a stage presentation by Scouts aged 6 to 18, who explained the Bronze Wolf and the connection between the Chief Scout and his grandfather (Chief Scout 1945-2019) in relation to this honour. An interview was also held around a symbolic fireplace on stage.
After the Bronze Wolf was conferred upon the Chief Scout by the WOSM delegation, the official ceremony came to an end. The second part of the event took place in and around the legendary Keltenhaus. A walking tour through the woods introduced guests to ten different outdoor cooking stations.
After receiving the award, His Royal Highness spoke with great emotion about this significant event in his Scout journey:
As Scouts, we should never underestimate the silent power of our scarves and shirts. They are more than just uniforms—they are symbols of hope, of unity, and of service. In a world that is increasingly searching for direction, meaning, and relationship, I truly believe that people can find what they are looking for in the values we live by and the community we build.”
HRH Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg, WSF Board Member and Immediate Past Chair
Since 2017, Prince Guillaume, a BP Fellow, has served as a Board Member of the World Scout Foundation. He was appointed as the Foundation’s Chairperson between September 2021 and October 2023, where he steered the Foundation through a significant period of change, including the development and adoption of a new strategy to boost funding for World Scouting. He has spearheaded efforts to increase institutional and individual fundraising and has leveraged committee coordination work, initiatives, and events to champion the missions of both the Foundation and the World Scouting (World Organization of the Scout Movement) for greater youth-led change, peace, and sustainable development.
Encouraged by his grandfather and his father to discover and protect nature, Prince Guillaume has been a Scout since he was a child, joining the Movement as a Cub Scout aged eight. Early on, he participated in a humanitarian camp in Nepal where he worked on projects supporting reforestation and assisting disadvantaged communities, leaving him with unforgettable memories. Prince Guillaume has also been an active proponent of Scouting on the national stage, having served as Chief Scout of Scouting in Luxembourg since October 2019. This role provides a vital link between the two national associations that make up Scouting in Luxembourg.
A prominent supporter of national and local Scout initiatives and events in Luxembourg, he has bolstered the image of Scouting and its actions in Luxembourg, not least during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he supported Scout community outreach, including the delivery of essential items to isolated individuals. As a notable public figure, his Scouting engagements showcase the Movement’s ability to inspire and act as a positive role model to young people and society both in Luxembourg and across the world.
Through his extraordinary dedication and leadership, Prince Guillaume continues to make an indelible mark on the Scout Movement, making him a deserving recipient of the Bronze Wolf Award.
For HRH Prince Guillaume, Luxembourg's Chief Scout, this award symbolises recognition not only of his own contributions, but above all, of the achievements of all Scouts in Luxembourg
Today was truly a very emotional day for me, with a very special thought for my grandfather, of course, who wore the Bronze Wolf for many years. It shows the strong bond we have with Scouting and also demonstrates how strong the Scouting movement is here in Luxembourg – and how proud we can be of it."
